300: Rise of the Empire - review

The 300 is really famous comic book by Frank Miller, which enchanted many lovers of blood and artistic violence. There are no doubts, that 300 is one of the most successful and nice comics of all times and from 2006, it’s unique movie series, which is following Miller’s legacy with meticulous accuracy too. Or maybe series is not the right, because until now, there was just one movie and we had to wait for 300: Rise of the Empire for more than 7 years. But do you know what? The second 300 is worthy of waiting and you’ll truly enjoy it!

The story of the second 300 is almost incredible and it was so close to cancelation for several times. But in the end, Bosses from Warner Bros. came to one’s senses and they made possible one of the most unique and visually engaging movie of the year. This movie doesn’t have famous actors or well known director, but it has straight vision and it’s done with love and passion. Rise of Empire doesn’t try to be something more than it is. It’s simple old good action movie for men and fathers with their sons, which looks amazing.

The most worthy of praise is director Noam Murro, who created only TV ads in the past and this is his first big movie project. This inexperienced man had no problem with Hollywood blockbuster and he got rid of huge budget and great expectations like a boss. 300: Rise of the Empire is really well directed, with amazing camera raids and incredibly good slow motion use. Mastery of this movie lies in the visual uniqueness and mixture of amazing battle choreography and good editing/post processing. It is about unique symbiosis of black and white comic book with colored movie, which works in this case even better than in first movie.

Rise of the Empire has even more variable action and is more imaginative than the first movie. Battles are bigger and decision to add totally new angle with sea battles was brilliant. Moreover, all of that goes really well with story about courage, hope and men toughness. 300 of course is not conversational drama and narration is quite simple, but it’s enough for this type of movie. After all, you go to the cinema because of action and for that is badass story about brave soldiers facing the odds the best option.

Thanks to that, 300 is funny and exciting movie only with a few deaf places. For example script itself is quite poor and some conversational parts are boring. But Murro limiting this scenes to absolutely necessary minimum and pushing scenes full of violence, stylish art blood and action to the foreground. I was quite surprised even by actors, which are not great, but either really bad. They are just ok and managing to play their roles really well. Actually, their only quest is to killing bad guys wich as much badass moves and quotes as possible. Only significant actor is Eva Green in the leading role of a little bit hardcore femme fatale. Yeah, she is damn hot and you really want to bang her same as main hero pictured by Sullivan Stapleton.

So, should you go to see new 300: Rise of the Empire? Definitely! It’s well made action movie with amazing direction and unique visual style, which gets you to your knees. Simple story is quite good for boys who wants to be enjoyed and don’t want to think about script so much and even girls will find something in it. My girlfriend was for example satisfied with flood of six packs! But be careful if you are a little bit jealous! Of course, you would be disappointed if you expect historicly accurate movie, or movie with deeper impact, than is juct good action. But it isn’t mistake fo the movie, but mainly yours.
